Term 3 Week 3

Monday: The lesson began as usual. Once we greeted Mr. Chua, we sat down and began the lesson. Mr. Chua reprimanded us again about the topics that will be tested in the End of Year Examinatons. After that, we continued our lesson on the play “Are you lonesome tonight”. We went through scene one. The characters were Redhead which was Elvis’s girlfriend after he divorced his wife Pricilla Beaulieu and Older Presley which he was in a bad condition a few months before his death.
After reading scene one, there were a number of words we did not know how to read. A few of them were crony (people who befriend other people for their fortune), Cadillac (an expensive car that only rich people could afford in older times) and attaché (an expensive brief case). We also got to see pictures of the Older Presley and a video of him during his last performance. He was weak but he gave his best shot and gave it his all during his last performance. This really shows that he loves his fans and that he cared about them. But due to his drug addiction, he was only able to live a short period of time.

Thursday: Today’s was all focus on analysing the play but on scene one. We went through Redhead and Older Presley characters. Why Elvis’s girlfriend was called Redhead? Was she hot tempered? What did she do in the scene? These were some of the questions we were asked and so we had to reanalysed the scene. After going through the scene, we knew that Redhead was not a hot tempered person and that she also cared about Elvis. In scene one, Redhead is trying tell Elvis to stop taking the pills (drugs) which was in the attaché case. She cares and loves him but Elvis doesn’t see that. He doesn’t care for her like how she cares for him. This also explains that Elvis does not respect her by calling her name but calling her as Redhead. When Elvis reaches and opens the attaché case, Redhead slams the case shut which she is trying to prevent Elvis from opening it. Elvis also does not treat her well and tells her to get out of his house as he does not want anyone to care whether he takes the drugs or not. He just wants to be left alone. This shows that he has no affection towards Redhead. I still think he is not over his divorce and that his still loves Pricilla Beaulieu. He’s upset that everyone left him, his daughter, his wife and his mum. I think that celebrities who are divorced may not be over their first love and when they get a girlfriend/boyfriend and go to public, they want people to that they are strong and that they are over their divorce. This same goes for the people who are divorced, they feel that something is missing and fell unprotected. Marriage is something that won’t last forever and they should hold on to it while they still can.
